The York River Stewardship Committee was formed in 2023 with town-appointed members from Eliot, Kittery, South Berwick, and York, following congressional designation of the York River and its tributaries into the National Wild and Scenic Rivers System. The Stewardship Committee is the local convener that coordinates implementation of the Partnership Wild and Scenic River designation and the York River Watershed Stewardship Plan.
