YBGD Public Draft Regulations Comment Period Now Open

draft regulations title page

Together with a consulting firm TPUDC, the residents of the Town of York have been working on a draft rezoning effort for the past six months. Together with public meetings this winter and public hearings next year, the community is planning for future generations by starting discussions now on how they would like the York Beach Greenway District to function, look, and feel. We hope to establish the identity of the York Beach Greenway as a year-round destination in the decades to come. Actual development is not included in this process, but the thought of where development should or shouldn’t be, along with what type of development is being discussed. Please contribute your ideas to the first public draft by reading and leaving comments for the York Beach Greenway District Subcommittee.

Public comments on the Draft regulations will be taken until Feb 27th as the York Beach Greenway District Subcommittee will need to return comments to TPUDC the following week.

Public comments on the Draft Zones will be taken until April 2024!

• Prospective Zones and Draft Regulations:

-The subcommittee has considered each parcel in the area and has developed a prospective zoning map that aims to protect the existing character of neighborhoods around the surrounding Short Sands area while allowing larger private parcels to develop in new ways. The prospective zoning map and the draft regulations work together to advance planning of the York Beach area.

Your presence and input at either the public meeting (Feb 15th, 6:30 PM at the York Beach Fire Department/Zoom) or our weekly Wednesday morning meetings would be invaluable as we aim to create a zoning district that reflects the diverse perspectives and needs of our community. We believe that your unique insights as an abutter will contribute to the comprehensive understanding of the potential impacts and benefits of this new district.
